Vitaflo PKU Explore 10 Orange Flavour (30x25g):@@: PKU explore is a powdered phenylalanine free* protein substitute, containing essential and non-essential amino acids, carbohydrate, sugar, vitamins, minerals, trace elements, arachidonic acid (ARA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).  Available in a choice of flavours.

Indications

For the dietary management of phenylketonuria (PKU). 

PKU explore5 is suitable from 6 months to 5 years of age. PKU explore10 is suitable from 1 year to 5 years of age.

Dosage and Administration 

To be determined by the clinician or dietitian and is dependent on the age, body weight and medical condition of the patient.

1. The daily protein substitute requirement is given as PKU explore. 

2. Additional protein is provided from exchanges of natural protein, to provide phenylalanine in controlled amounts, which is essential for  growth and development. 

3. Foods high in carbohydrate and fat, but low in protein, should be provided to supply the remainder of the energy.

Preparation Guidelines 

PKU explore5 and PKU explore10 can be taken as a semi-solid spoonable consistency:

1. For PKU explore5 add 12.5ml of cold water into a beaker. For PKU explore10 add 25ml of cold water into a beaker.   
2. Empty the contents of the sachet into the beaker.    
3. Secure the lid and shake well for 10 seconds.    
4. Leave to stand for 2 minutes, allowing a smooth semi-solid consistency to form. Consume with a spoon.  

Important Notice

Must be used under strict medical supervision. Not suitable for use as a sole source of nutrition. Must only be consumed by children with proven Phenylketonuria (PKU). Diet must be supplemented with natural protein, water and other nutrients in prescribed quantities to supply phenylalanine, fluid and general nutritional requirements. For enteral use only. 

Storage 

Store in a cool, dry place. Sachets are designed for single use. Any unused powder should be tightly sealed and used within 24 hours.
