Polycal Liquid is a Food for Special Medical Purposes for use under medical supervision. Polycal Liquid is a ready to use, concentrated carbohydrate supplement drink. Polycal Liquid is designed for the dietary management of disease related malnutrition, as an energy supplement for patients who are unable to meet their energy requirements from normal food and drink.

 

Polycal Liquid is presented in 200ml cartons, with a flexible straw attached, in 2 flavours: Neutral and Orange.

Indications

For enteral use only. ACBS approved, prescribable on form FP10 (GP10 in Scotland) for the following indications: disease related malnutrition, malabsorption states or other conditions requiring fortification with a high or readily available carbohydrate supplement. Polycal Liquid is suitable for patients with renal failure, liver cirrhosis, disaccharide intolerance (without isomaltose intolerance), disorders of amino acid metabolism, and/or whole protein intolerance, or other conditions including proven hypoglycaemia requiring a high energy, low fluid, low electrolyte diet.

 

Polycal Liquid is fat free and low in minerals, so is suitable for patients with such dietary restrictions. Polycal Liquid is suitable for glucose intolerance tests (113ml of Polycal Liquid provides an equivalent carbohydrate load to a standard 75g dose of anhydrous glucose).

 

Contraindications

Not for intravenous use.

Not suitable for children under 3 years of age.

Not suitable as a sole source of nutrition.

Only to be used as a supplement to the normal diet.

 

Precautions

Use with caution in patients with diabetes.

 

Directions for use

Polycal liquid is best served chilled and can be taken undiluted or diluted.

 

Storage

Store in a dry, cool place (5-25oC).

Shake well before use.

Once opened store bottles in a refrigerator for a maximum of 24 hours.

 

Shelf life

15 months. Best before date: see top of carton.
