Precautions

Monogen is a Food for Special Medical Purposes and must be used under medical supervision. It is intended for enteral use only. Monogen is suitable for use as a sole source of nutrition for infants, or as a supplementary nutritional feed for children over one year of age and adults, as advised by a healthcare professional.

Preparation and Directions for Usage

Dosage and Preparation

The recommended dosage of Monogen depends on the age, body weight, and medical condition of the patient and must be determined by a clinician or dietitian only. Each level scoop (5.6 g) of Monogen powder requires 30 ml of water to achieve the recommended feed concentration of 16.8% w/v.

Preparation per 100 ml of ready-to-feed formula:

  • 90 ml water (preferably at 40°C)

  • 3 level scoops of Monogen powder

It is recommended to use the feed immediately after preparation.

Preparation for Infants

When preparing Monogen for infants, please follow these instructions carefully:

  1. Wash hands thoroughly and clean the preparation area. Sterilise feeding bottles and teats if used.

  2. Allow freshly boiled water to cool for approximately 30 minutes, until it feels warm to the wrist. Pour the required amount of water into a sterilised feeding bottle.

  3. Fill the scoop provided with Monogen powder and level it off using a clean, dry knife. Do not press the powder into the scoop. Use only the scoop provided.

  4. Add the prescribed number of level scoops to the water. Secure the bottle and shake until the powder is fully dissolved.

  5. Before feeding, check the temperature by placing a few drops on the wrist. Shake or stir immediately before use.

The formula should not be warmed for longer than 15 minutes prior to feeding. Do not boil, do not microwave, and do not reheat the formula. Any feed remaining in the bottle one hour after feeding must be discarded.

Preparation for Older Children and Adults

  1. Measure the prescribed amount of Monogen powder using the scoop provided.

  2. Add a small amount of the required water and stir with a fork until a smooth paste is formed.

  3. Gradually add the remaining water while stirring continuously until fully mixed.

Once reconstituted, store in a refrigerator and use within 2 hours.
