Beef & Guinness Stew (serves 1) – Ensure TwoCal Neutral


  • ½ pack of Ensure® TwoCal neutral (100ml)
  • Salt and pepper to season
  • 1 tablespoon of flour
  • Beef, cubed (800g)
  • Butter (25g)
  • 1 teaspoon of olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 clove of garlic, crushed
  • 1 large carrot, finely chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, diced
  • Guinness (250ml)
  • 1 beef stock cube dissolved in 250ml of boiling water
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Fresh thyme


  • Preheat the oven to 170°C / 325°F / Gas Mark 3
  • In a medium mixing bowl, add flour, pinch of salt and pepper
  • Coat the beef in the flour mixture
  • In a large frying pan, melt the butter and oil over a medium heat
  • Shake off the excess flour from the beef and add to the frying pan, cook until the beef is browned
  • Remove the beef from the frying pan and place in an oven proof dish
  • Add onion, garlic, chopped carrot and celery to the frying pan. Cover and cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally
  • Transfer the vegetables to an oven proof dish
  • Add Guinness, beef stock, salt and pepper, bay leaf and thyme
  • Cover and bake in the oven for 1½-2 hours or until the meat is cooked (stir occasionally adding extra boiling water if more juice is required)
  • Remove from the oven and stir through Ensure® TwoCal
  • Serve immediately

Serving suggestions:

  • Serve with potatoes or fresh, crusty white bread
